Audiobook Production
Fantastic Journeys Publishing offers services beyond helping self-publishing authors make their books look great. We also have the ability to turn their novel into an audiobook.
This process starts with the author or publisher needing to decide if they want a full cast audiobook, two readers, or one reader. This isn't always an easy choice. Full-cast audiobooks sound amazing, every character has a unique voice, and it has a sound similar to old style radio shows. The drawback is there are a lot of people who need paid for their voicework. A two reader format generally means one man and one woman reading the point of views of characters of their own gender. This gives more depth to the production, but doesn't vary as much as a full cast. A single reader is the most common format. One reader does all the voices for every character and narrates all of the action.
Once you've decided how you want your book read, we need audition pieces put together. If you've decided against the full-cast audiobook, then we need 3 scenes to for the auditions. The first contains all narration. The second needs to have a conversation between 2 or more characters. And the third is the scene you feel you need to have read perfectly. If you've decided on a full-cast audiobook, then you need an audition piece for each character and the narrator.
Next we've got the audition pieces, those get sent to potential voice actors for them to record. You get to listen to all of the auditions and decide who you like best. Then we send your pick the manuscript and help them record your book. We work with the actors to make sure your book is getting the reading it deserves. We will edit out the takes that don't make the cut and put the whole thing together.
Lastly, it gets uploaded to Audible and ready to be put on CD.
As sales come in, the royalties get split between the author, narrator/cast, and the production company.
That's it. Your book has now come alive and is ready to be listened to across the country.
